In Naukan, people gathered the flowers and most tender new leaves to eat raw in seal oil or with boiled meat. Children would pick the unopened flower buds and chew them like gum. The term tameqasaq refers things used as chewing gum, both these flowers and blubber were used in a similar way.
Жители Наукана собирали соцветия и самые нежные новые листочки, чтобы есть сырыми с нерпичьим жиром или вареным мясом. Дети собирали нераскрывшиеся цветочные почки ивы и жевали их как жвачку. Термин тамык’асяк’ обозначает все, что можно использовать как жвачку: похожим образом использовали и цветы ивы, и китовый жир.
