Naukan:
This plant is so named because it resembles bistort (especially the flowers), but is not considered edible and is not gathered. It is associated with the dead and grows around the cemetery at the old village of Naukan.
Note that some published sources have listed the name ngerngaq for this species. However, all of the people we interviewed said the name ngerngaq actually refers to Rumex arcticus rather than this plant.
Это растение называется так, потому что напоминает горец (особенно своими цветами), но съедобным не считается. Его связывают с миром мертвых, и оно растет вокруг кладбища старого Наукана.

The name kellyp’et means ‘devil’s bistort.’ Just as in the Naukan case, this name serves to indicate that this species resembles Persicaria bistorta, but is not edible.
