Central Alaskan Yup’ik:
The young stems can be picked from lakes in the fall at freeze-up by scraping them off the ice, or, in the spring, when it thaws. They are not collected in the summer, or eaten raw. People chop them and cooked them in seal or fish soup. People do not gather these as often nowadays.
